“Make People Well”, a favorite motto of Dr. Ed Alstat; visionary naturopathic physician, passionate herbalist, and founder of Eclectic Herb. Dissatisfied with the availability and quality of herbal products at the time, Dr. Alstat created the company within the clinic dispensary of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1982.

Eclectic Herb was established as a pioneering force as Dr. Alstat created a line of herbal products that were effective, ethical, and environmentally friendly. By blending naturopathic principles with traditional herbalism, the company supports the health of the individual as well as the planet.

Known for its pioneering freeze-drying process, Eclectic Herb’s products preserve the natural potency and nutrient content of herbs as close as possible to those growing in the wild. This method is considered the most superior form of herbal preservation, ensuring that each product retains its full bioactive compounds. These freeze-dried local herb blends quickly became a customer favorite for their amazing freshness and effectiveness, and the mindful manner of their production.

Today, the company is led by Christine Alstat, Dr. Alstat's widow, who took over the business with a promise to continue her husband’s legacy. As a Naturopath, trained in New Zealand and of Japanese origin, Christine has infused a blend of New Zealand’s ecological principles with Japanese cultural traditions into Eclectic Herb.

Christine's vision for Eclectic Herb focuses on the purest, freshest herbs, engaging the community, and inspiring other women in business. Christine has introduced initiatives like children’s summer camps, internships, and wellness seminars, aiming to empower individuals with knowledge about natural health. As a wl noriter and speaker, Christine shares her extensive experience with herbs and plants and supporting nonprofit organizations like the Alstat Clinic in New York, founded by Dr. Les Moore in memory of Dr. Ed Alstat.

Missionary RX Chocolates began as a heartfelt endeavor in 2008, crafted by Dr. Melissa Berry, a Naturopathic Physician, during her final year at the National University of Natural Medicine. What started as a thoughtful gift for her vegan mother has blossomed into a thriving chocolate enterprise. Dr. Berry's initial creation, a set of dairy-free truffles, not only catered to her mother's dietary needs but also won accolades, winning first place at the Northwest Chocolate Festival shortly after the company's inception.

Driven by a mission to blend health, taste, and social responsibility, Missionary RX Chocolates quickly set a standard for culinary excellence and health consciousness in the confectionery industry. Each chocolate is handcrafted using allergen-friendly ingredients, ensuring that every piece is as inclusive as it is delicious. 

The success of Missionary RX Chocolates has enabled Dr. Berry to pursue a broader vision: funding an integrative, inpatient healing center in Portland. This mission is fueled by the profits from her chocolate sales, embodying her belief that business can be a powerful vehicle for social change.
