FAQs

What is freeze-drying? What makes it superior?
Freeze-drying is the gentlest of all drying methods.  It is a cold process that removes water through sublimation preserving all of a plant’s nutrients and phytochemicals in an active state.

Are our products organic and non-GMO?
All of our products are non-GMO. We use both certified organic and wild crafted plants. We grow certified organic plants on our organic farm, and ethically harvest from natural habitats that are free of pesticides and chemicals. We wild craft many plants right here in Oregon, and some from our own 165 acres of land.

Are our products Kosher?
All of our freeze-dried capsules, powders and glycerites are 100 % Kosher and have been certified by Rabbi Shlomo Truzman.

What is our alcohol made from?
It is made from Sugar Cane, just like rum.

What is our glycerite made from?
Our glycerites are made by first extracting the herb in alcohol, and then removing the alcohol with a Lloyd's Extractor. Kosher vegetable glycerin is added.

How many beets does it take to make a bottle of beet Juice  powder?
It takes about 11 pounds of beets to make one pound of product. There are approximately 2.2 pounds of beets in every bottle.

How much kale does it take to make a bottle of kale powder?
It takes 6.5 pounds of fresh kale to make 1 pound of freeze-dried product. There are approximately 1.3 pounds of kale in every bottle.

What are our capsules made from?
Our capsules are made from hypromellose, a plant cellulose.

Capsules vs. Liquid? Which one is better?
It is best to take the form of the product best suited to your needs and preferences, be that a powder, a capsule or a liquid.  The purest form of the herb is the powder, which is simply the plant fresh freeze-dried with nothing added, not even a capsule. The capsule has this pure powder encapsulated in a plant-based capsule for easy use. The liquid extracts are plants that have been extracted in alcohol and are easy to carry and take, but they are a fraction as opposed to the whole plant.  Glycerites are very pleasant tasting, easy to take and great for kids and people that have an aversion to alcohol.

Do you get products from China?  Which ones?
For our freeze-dried products, we have to start with fresh material and therefore use US grown plants when possible.  Even our tropical plants such as our turmeric and ginger come from Hawaii. Exceptions are Kava which is from Vanuatu and bilberry which is from Europe. We do not have any freeze-dried herbs from China.
For our extracts, we also always use US grown material when possible. For some Chinese herbs with history of traditional use such as ginseng and dong quai, the best quality material is from China so we source those few herbs from there. Only 3 of our 200 herbs are from China.

Why can’t you tell me what I can/should take?
The FDA is very strict on what a dietary supplement manufacturer can say about their products. We are in fact forbidden by law from making specific disease claims. Even though our products were formulated by a naturopathic physician the best advice about the use of herbs will always be from your health care provider.

Why do some of the powders clump?
Sometimes powders with a higher natural sugar content such as fruit based powders will tend to clump. Storing the product in a cool dark place such as a fridge or freezer after it has been opened may be helpful.

How many ml per drop?
There are approximately 30 drops per ml in our alcohol extracts and approximately 20 drops per ml for our glycerites.
